this was a fun activity for my nature-loving boy to do indoors! he has been so curious about rocks and other things like it!
this activity can be a little messy, but is definitely an easy clean up!
what you will need:
+ a few rocks
+ a couple of bowls or containers
+ some type of scrubber or rag
+ a towel
+ cleaner/spray
all of these supplies are completely optionally and/or interchangeable, so feel free to get creative!
we went outside and collected a few rocks, and of course put our bare feet to the ground (hello incredible grounding benefits!), we then brought them inside and filled a small bowl with water and placed our rocks inside. i let him splash around the water and the rocks. as the splashing became less interesting to him, i prompted him to try scrubbing the rocks. i would ask him if he wanted to help clean them. i then showed him what cleaning was. i scrubbed and sprayed the rocks and then allowed him a chance to do the same. we used a tray, which was fun because it allowed him to see the rocks and scrub them outside of the water. he definitely spilled the water everywhere, but the towel came in handy to keep it all in one spot! after he did his turn cleaning, scrubbing and washing his rocks, i showed him how to "pat, pat, pat" them dry! we would dry them and get them wet again. let them do it over and over! once we were finished cleaning them we played with them. put them in containers with separate compartments, counted and kissed them!
this activity is simple and a sweet time to teach your littles some practical skills along with some fine motor practice!
