if you're anything like me, i'm always trying to find ways to keep my toddler busy without having to turn the tv on. so it feels my life's pursuit is to find all the ways to keep this busy toddler entertained!
i've always loved the idea of sensory bins-- it's a fun way to incorporate finer motor skills, introduce new textures & so on, but it can be tough finding the right things to add into a sensory bin based on age. we have always struggled with everything going in the mouth, so i will share some alternatives for infants as well!
WHAT DO I PUT IT IN?
first, i will say the ikea storage bins make the PERFECT container to keep your sensory bin in. it's wide, not too deep & a great size for kiddos. so i suggest getting one of those, but you can also use any container or box you have laying around.
i want to share this with you as a BUDGET FRIENDLY option, a cute, but practical activity. ya get me?
FIND YOUR BASE & ADD TO IT
okay! here's what i did... add to your next grocery order or list noodles. noodles are super inexpensive & are sturdy for toddlers that are more on the rough & tough side. we went with a variety of noodles-- rotini, spirals, elbows, etc. if you are trying to be extra "fall festive" add a box of the "garden rotini." they add the perfect fall touch... greens, oranges, etc! keep in mind, you can find LARGE noodles that are perfect for infants learning not to put everything in their mouth!
once you have your base, you can have fun with what you put in it. the options are ENDLESS! i went to hobby lobby & cruised their fall aisles in pursuit of some fun wooden shapes or fall themed items. this way you can decide what items will be a good size for your toddler-- you can find larger items for infants & smaller as they get bigger.
we ended up finding some small wooden acorns, which are super fun, versatile & i feel more aesthetic! (haha) we also found some "vase filler" that are plastic shaped leaves & pumpkins! it felt like the perfect mix!
just add them in however you like or allow your child to pour them in as they please!
PLAY IDEAS
we like to collect play kitchen tools, bowls, tins, etc. for playing! you can also find creative ways to engage your child in more learning!
play "hide & seek" hide/bury larger objects and have them search for them
sorry by color
scoop & pour
be creative-- there are so many ways you can engage your child. follow their cues!
